My LinkedIn Profile SEO Experiment

LinkedIn could almost be called the “Facebook” of business, and is definitely one of the legs of your 3 legged stool of Social Networking, the other two being Twitter and Facebook. In truth, LinkedIn was my first foray into social networking having ventured onto the site back in mid-2007. Sadly, however it has been my most underutilized. Well, until now.

My theory and I had to call it that, since it has been shown to pretty well proven, is that Google loves LinkedIn. LinkedIn has an advanced search function, and many profiles of companies and personal profiles rank very high in Google search. Sadly, I was like so many other LinkedIn users and ignored the great opportunity to optimize my profile like my blog to garner some great opportunities and have my brand found but those searching in and out of Google.

So, I am going to share with you what I am doing and what I have done to be found for many of my keywords.

Let me share a secret with you. Are you ready for this? Google, yes that Google, loves keywords. Shocking, I know. I am slowly breaking into speaking and training in Real Estate and Mortgage, Social Media Strategy, Performance Based Marketing and a just a few others.  So, where am I going to put all those…My headline, yes, my headline.  While most headlines contain company name, job title, and little to nothing else. Welcome to the ocean kid. It is big and vast and you are just like everyone else. I am loading mine up with everything that I want to be found for.  I am going to be the big fish in the barrel.

So, what do you want to be found? How do you want to be found?

Another area to place your keywords would be in the website section, by using the “interest” option.  Here again, I load up on the keywords.  Remember not to over do it or you may turn off the reader, but it is another great way to get yourself found.

Darn, this is going to have to be a 2 parter.  Next up Company Profiles – double the love

Good Stuff, Daver. I set-up a Linkin profile and only visit when I *receive* link requests. Weak sauce, my friend. I see where you linked your blog – are you limited to one blog or how do you decide which blog you feature?
Rocking good job and great tips w/pic – easy as A-B-C.
    Thanks
